S22 Battery Replacement Journey

After using my Samsung Galaxy S22 for over 3,5 years the battery started to get worse and worse. For a few months I had the issue that when dropping below 15% the phone began to start lagging a lot and quickly lose the last percentages within minutes. During the last weeks of using this phone it got so bad that it took roughly 30 minutes to drop from 100 to 60 percent, and then it took about 10 minutes of use to drop from 60 percent to 0.

The day I noticed that my phone had a swollen back, likely because the battery was expanding, I decided it was enough and I needed a replacement quick before it could potentially get dangerous with the phone. After getting my new phone I decided I wanted to experiment and play around with the S22 and try how difficult or easy a battery replacement could be, so I bought a cheap replacement kit on amazon and tried my luck.

Luckily I could remove the backplate of the phone without trouble, since it was already detached. There was even a big gap that let me see the internals because the swollen battery had pushed the backplate outward.

Following youtube guides on how to replace the battery it all went well until one particular screw decided to not move at all cost. I tried leveraging it or using pliers but with no success. So I couldn't follow the intended route of replacing the battery.

Instead I tried to remove the screws at the bottom of the phone, while the cover thats attaching the wireless charging coil was still attached to the phone by latching on this one screw, luckily I could bend the metal with my unfathomable strength and it got the job done and I could disconnect all cables from the battery and safely remove it.

It was also surprsingly easy to drop in the new battery with some adhesive that came with it and screw everything back together.

The backplate was already a bit bend due to the original battery swelling so its not sealed perfectly and would not get an IP68-Rating, but that's fine as it was more for a learning experience.
